Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud has given a big statement regarding honor killing in the country. During a program in Mumbai on Saturday, he said that every year hundreds of youths are killed in the country due to love affair or marriage in other caste. He also expressed grief over this in the program.

Justice Chandrachud was speaking at a function to mark the 90th birth anniversary of the former Attorney General. He said that morality is such a concept, which varies from person to person.

CJI referred to an article from 1991
The CJI referred to an article from 1991. He narrated how in 1991 a 15 year old girl was killed by her parents in Uttar Pradesh. The villagers accepted the crime as according to them the girl had taken a step against the society. The society which has been created by the powerful people and the weaker section has to follow it. While these rules are against the traditions of the people of that section.

He said that what the powerful people decide is considered as morality. The weaker sections are suppressed so much that they cannot make their own rules.

No matter is big or small for HC or SC – CJI
Justice Chandrachud reiterated during the program that no matter is big or small for the court. Be it District Judiciary or High Court or Supreme Court. Every case is important to the court. People repose their faith in the courts to protect their personal liberty.
