During an event in the Supreme Court on Women’s Day, the CJI had announced the release of a glossary of inappropriate words used for women in court language, arguments and judgements.

CJI DY Chandrachud is about to complete 23 years as a judge, but he has never faced any pressure during such a long career. Tell this, he said in the event of India Today in New Delhi. CJI said – There is pressure, but on the mind so that the right solution to a case can be found. His right decision can be taken.

In this event, CJI also told his choice on collegium system, online trolling of judges. He told that if he had been a cricketer, he would have been like Rahul Dravid.

Now read what the CJI said…

  • Disagreement with Law Minister: He has a belief. I have an opinion and there is bound to be a difference. After all, what’s wrong with having a difference of opinion? We have to deal with difference of perception within the Judiciary.
  • Appointment of homosexual judge Saurabh Kripal: Everyone knew about what you are referring to publicly. It was not a matter of risking one’s life. The Intelligence Bureau report was about Gay. This was known to the media, we just said that it has nothing to do with sitting on a high post like a judge.
  • I do not follow Twitter: It is important for us not to be swayed by extreme thought wars. When a judge gives his opinion, social media makes it as if it is the final decision. I don’t blame them. We need more open systems. I watch TV debates, read too, but keep it aside while deciding a case.
  • Hardly find time for yourself Regarding getting time for himself, he said- I like Bob Dylan and cricket very much. I hardly get time for sports. But if I were a cricketer, I would be like Rahul Dravid.
  • Pending cases shows the trust people have in us: We write judgments on Saturdays, prepare for Mondays on Sundays. US Supreme Court sits for 80 days, SC in India sits for 200 days every year. The pendency shows the faith of the people and to maintain it the judges have to be more efficient.
