New Delhi: Bollywood actress Chitrangda Singh recently talked about her passion for filmmaking. She remembers moving to screenplay writing sometime between 2015 and 2016 after getting turned down for parts she wanted. She claimed that at that point, she was only receiving “bad roles.”
With the 2005 film ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’, Chitrangda Singh made her acting debut. It was directed by Sudhir Mishra, who later gave Chitrangda the idea for the parts she wrote in his movie ‘Inkaar’. She changed her role to that of producer for Shaad Ali’s 2018 film ‘Soorma’.
Talking about how her interest in filmmaking began, Chitrangda said during an interaction with Mashable India, “To be honest there was this pit in between when I was getting offered some very bad roles. So, uss samay main kuch nahi kar rahi thi (during that time, I wasn’t doing anything at all). I think this is around 2015-2016. I had started writing long back and I have to thank Sudhir (Mishra) for that because for Inkaar’s scene with Arun Rampal, where I confront him in the bathroom, I had a lot of suggestions and inputs about how she will feel and whatever…”
She added further, “So, he (Sudhir Mishra) said ‘You know why don’t you write it’. I was like ‘Do you mean I write the scene?’ He was like ‘Yeah write if this is what you are thinking is good input. You have a good mind do it’. I went and wrote it and he shot it like that. What you see almost 80% of it is written by me.”
Chitrangda Singh moved to Mumbai in 2010. She appeared in movies including I, Me Aur Main (2013), Desi Boys (2011), and Yeh Saali Zindagi (2011). She most recently appeared in the Disney+ Hotstar film ‘Gaslight’. Vikrant Massey and Sara Ali Khan both played significant roles in it.

Her understated confidence lends the film an air of authenticity that helps the plot forward. Despite several poorly crafted scenes, Chitrangada Singh’s role is the most sophisticated and she portrays it with integrity. She can switch between the roles of seductress and stepmother with ease. You will be captivated and also desire more. After seeing Chitrangda, it’s hard to see anybody other in the role of Rukmini.”
