Chinmayi Sripaada slammed Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for thrashing his disciple.

Popular singer Chinmayi Sripada slammed Rahat Fateh Ali Khan after a video of him beating his disciple went viral.

Renowned Pakistani singer Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan who has equally contributed his voice to many Bollywood films as well as Pakistani serials stirred a controversy after video of him assaulting an individual inside the premises of his house went viral. Following the shock and outrage, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan issued a clarification video where he claimed that the matter was between ‘Ustad and Shagird’. Now Indian singer Chinmayi Sripaada has reacted to the incident.

Calling out the singer on her X(formerly Twitter) handle, Chinmayi wrote, “Some of these people behave like such gentle, soft spoken souls in public, one would never think they’d be capable of such inhumane behaviour. If only cameras existed earlier – more of those we celebrate as so called greats would have been exposed for what they actually were to other people. Horrendous.”

She also shared the video of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s clarification and slammed him for justifying his actions, “The justification he gives here “The teacher showers love on the student when they do well; and the punishment is equally harsh when they make a mistake.” Gurus get protected by the ‘divinity’ of their position, regardless of the faith / religion they practice – all their transgressions, from violence, emotional abuse to sexual abuse is condoned for the sake of their ‘artistry’, ‘talent’ etc etc. This needs to stop.”

In the apology video, he explained that the bottle he requested didn’t contain liquor; instead, it had holy water from a religious cleric who recited verses over it. The post was shared by senior journalist and anchor Tariq Mateen. It starts with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan saying ‘Ye Jo hua videos aap dekh rahe hai, ye ek Ustad aur Shagird ke beech ki baat hai.”

Meanwhile, the widely circulated clip on social media, shared by Samaa TV, shows the famous Pakistani singer demanding liquor from an individual and physically assaulting them in front of a crowd.
