Chidambaram Says Lucky To Get Away With ‘Suspected Hairline Crack’ After Being ‘Pushed By Cops’

New Delhi: The Congress on Monday claimed that senior leader P Chidambaram suffered fracture in his left rib after being pushed by Delhi Police personnel while protesting against Enforcement Directorate’s summons to Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald money laundering case, reported news agency ANI.

“Former Union Minister and senior leader P Chidambaram suffered a fracture in his left rib after he was pushed away by Police today during the party’s protest in Delhi,” the Congress party said.

Chidambaram in a tweet later said that he is suspected to have hairline fracture and that he is fine. “…Doctors have said that if there is a hairline crack, it will heal by itself in about 10 days. I am fine and I will go about my work tomorrow,” he tweeted.

Earlier in the day, Indian Youth Congress president Srinivas BV tweeted a video showing his senior party colleague KC Venugopal being ‘manhandled’ by the personnel of Delhi Police as they detained Congress workers to stop them from participating in a protest march.

“This behaviour of Delhi Police with a sitting Rajya Sabha MP and AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal ji is highly condemnable,” said Srinivas in a tweet.

Scores of Congress workers were detained by the Delhi Police personnel after they tried to reach the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters in Delhi in support of Rahul Gandhi.

In view of the planned march by Congress leaders and workers from party office till Enforcement Directorate office in solidarity with Rahul Gandhi, the Delhi Police had blocked all entry points and roads leading to the AICC headquarters.
