Following several days of intense rainfall, schools in the city of Chennai have been ordered to remain closed today, November 25. The District Collector of Chennai, Rashmi Siddharth Zagade issued the announcement, as per reports from ANI. “Due to heavy rain in the region, a holiday has been announced in all schools in Chennai,” the District Collector was cited as saying in a post of X( formerly Twitter) by ANI.

Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, and Chennai districts of Tamil Nadu are expected to have moderate rain today, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Due to severe rains that lashed numerous regions of Tamil Nadu last week, schools in Chennai and other nearby areas were closed. A number of districts, including Madurai, Dindigul, Theni, Mayiladuthurai, and Kanyakumari had also declared a school holiday on Friday due to rains,

Heavy rain in Tamil Nadu earlier this month, on November 15, prompted the closure of all schools, colleges, and educational facilities in the districts of Chennai, Tiruvallur, and Puducherry. Following the heavy downpours that affected Tamil Nadu’s coastal and interior regions, several other districts also decided to call for school holidays.

Furthermore, residents were advised to exercise caution due to the severe rains on November 21 by the governments of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Waterlogging in the Moolakkothalam neighbourhood of Chennai caused an MTC bus to get stuck in a subway. The bus was subsequently relocated with the assistance of the Transport Department and Corporation.

A cyclonic circulation is expected to form over the South Andaman Sea and the surrounding area around November 25, according to Livemint. On November 26, a low-pressure region is expected to emerge over the South Andaman Sea and its surroundings due to its impact.
