Low cost fresh tomato stock will be made available to consumers in Delhi-NCR from July 14.

The Central Government has prepared a plan to provide relief from the rising prices of tomatoes across the country. The Department of Consumer Affairs has asked the National Agricultural Co-operative Marketing Federation (Nafed) and the National Co-operative Consumer Federation (NCCF) to procure tomatoes from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra and distribute them in areas where tomato prices are high. are increasing continuously.

Tomato prices have crossed Rs 100 in most places in the country. The government said that the centers to which this fresh stock of tomatoes will be released have been identified on the basis of increase in the retail price in the last one month. Consumption has also been taken into account in this process. That is, where the consumption is more, its supply will also be more.

The government said that fresh stock will be made available to consumers in Delhi-NCR from Friday i.e. 14 July. That means they will be able to buy tomatoes at a lower price from Friday.

Southern and Western regions contribute about 60% of the total production.
Tomato is produced in almost every Indian state. Whereas the southern and western regions contribute about 60% to the total production of the country. The surplus production in these regions is used to ensure a continuous supply of tomatoes to other parts of India.

Prices rise due to reduction in production of tomatoes in monsoon
Depending on the season in different regions, the amount of production remains less or more. In most areas of the country, maximum production of tomato takes place between December and February. Tomato production is less in July-August and October-November. With the onset of monsoon in July, tomato production declines and prices increase.

The arrival of new crop from Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh will reduce the prices
The government said that Delhi and surrounding cities are getting stock from Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka. At the same time, tomatoes are being supplied in many states from Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. However, new crop is expected to arrive soon from Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. Due to which the prices may come down in the coming time.
