The Chandigarh CBI has started an investigation against former Chandigarh SSP and Jalandhar Commissioner of Police (CP) Kuldeep Singh Chahal on corruption charges. A preliminary inquiry has been initiated in the matter. This inquiry has been initiated into allegations of corruption and misconduct while being SSP in Chandigarh.

Please tell that Chahal was repatriated 10 months before the completion of his 3-year tenure in Chandigarh. His alleged misconduct was cited as the reason behind this and Administrator BL Purohit issued orders to relieve him on December 12 with immediate effect.

According to sources, this investigation has been started on the basis of the information given by the administrator BL Purohit. Let us inform that Chahal, an IPS officer of the year 2009 batch, took charge of SSP Chandigarh on September 29, 2020. Earlier he was the SSP of Mohali.

Was removed on complaint of misconduct
On December 14, Punjab Governor Purohit issued a letter to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann saying that there was a complaint of serious misconduct against Chahal. This was ascertained from reliable sources. After which the decision to remove Chahal from the post of SSP of Chandigarh was discussed with the Chief Secretary of Punjab from November 28, 2022. Along with this, a panel of 3 qualified IPS officers was asked to be sent for the SSP of Chandigarh.

Roll in getting the food court vacated in a mall
On the other hand, according to the sources, no action was taken despite the removal of Chahal on the charges of misconduct by the administrator Purohit. According to sources, one of the allegations against Chahal pertains to him personally getting a food court vacated in a big mall. At the same time, Chahal’s role was also questionable in the case of non-registration of an FIR in a sexual-harassment case against an influential person. He was a senior executive of a big shopping mall in Chandigarh. Apart from this, Chahal’s role was also suspected in a case of illegal occupation of a house.

No posting was given in Punjab
After being repatriated from Chandigarh to Punjab, he was not posted anywhere for several days. After this, he was posted as the Commissioner of Police of Jalandhar on 21 January under the rank of DIG. Let us inform that during the Republic Day celebrations in Jalandhar on January 26, Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit had arrived as the chief guest. Before that Chahal had gone on casual leave for 2 days and did not attend the programme.
