Caught On Cam: Woman Chased By Lahore Mob Over Arabic Text On Kurta Mistaken For Quranic Verses

In Lahore, Pakistan, a woman found herself in dangerous situation after being surrounded by an angry mob as she was wearing a kurta which was allegedly mistaken to contain Quranic verses. A viral video showed her in anguish as she sat at a restaurant, her hands hiding her face from the jeering mob. Misconceptions about her kurta with printed Arabic text led to charges of contempt for the Quran, exposing her to public scrutiny and humiliation.

In the middle of the chaos, a female police officer intervened, asking the mob to stop from violence and escorted the woman in departing from the scene safely.

Sharing the video on its official X handle, Pakistan’s Punjab Police stated: “ASP Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi, the brave SDPO of Gulbarg Lahore, put her life in danger to rescue a woman from a violent crowd. For this heroic deed, the Punjab Police has recommended her name for the prestigious Quaid-e-Azam Police Medal (QPM), the highest gallantry award for law enforcement in Pakistan.”

The video, released by the police, shows ASP Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi attempting to calm the angry mob so that she could safely escort the woman out of the restaurant. The police officer was observed entering inside the restaurant and assisting the woman, who had changed into a burqa and covered her face, to exit.

While sharing the clip, the police complimented Naqvi for risking her life to save the victim from the rowdy throng.

Speaking about the incident, the policewoman in another video stated: “The woman had gone shopping along with her husband. She had worn a kurta that had some words written on it. When some people saw it they asked her to remove the kurta. There was confusion…”
