Medicines have become expensive in Himachal. The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has revised the prices of about 74 medicines across the country. Maximum prices of 56 medicines and retail prices (MRP) of 18 medicines have been fixed.

In such a situation, medicines for allergies, heart diseases, cancer, ulcers, migraine, cold, flu, fever, antibiotics and fungal infections and injections etc. will be found expensive. A notification has also been issued in this regard.

NPPA Deputy Director Mahavir Saini said in the notification issued that the rates of 74 medicines are being changed. The drug regulator has made this revision in prices under the Drugs (Prices Control) Order-2013. Retail prices of some drugs, ceiling prices of some have been fixed.

Permission to increase 10% annually
In fact, under the Drugs Order (DPCO) 2013, the ceiling price of essential drugs included in Schedule I is fixed by the authority. Manufacturers of drugs that are not under price control are allowed to increase the retail price by 10 per cent annually.
