BTS leader RM, also known as Kim Namjoon, penned an emotional letter to fans expressing his feelings as he prepares for the 18-month service.

The global K-pop sensation BTS is facing a temporary hiatus as prominent members RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook embark on their mandatory military service. The highly anticipated enlistment of these beloved artists is set to take place today, December 11 and tomorrow December 12. Ahead of their departure, BTS leader RM, also known as Kim Namjoon, penned an emotional letter to fans expressing his feelings as he prepares for the 18-month service. RM acknowledged the mixed emotions surrounding this transition but conveyed optimism for the future.

In his heartfelt message, he mentioned the difficulty in finding the right words for this momentous occasion. He expressed gratitude for the past 10 years as a member of the idol group. He continued by saying “End is also a beginning”, expressing faith that positive experiences await the group upon their return.

RM further reflected on the experiences of fellow members Seokjin Hyung (Jin) and Hoseok (J-Hope), who underwent this process earlier and drew inspiration from their resilience.

Expecting 18 months filled with new insights and learning, RM, despite acknowledging fear and uncertainty, found solace in the anticipation of reuniting with fans and the support they provide.

He wrote, “Though I’m scared and fearful as well, what could be more comforting than the fact that there is something to anticipate and look forward to during this uncertain time?”

The letter touched on the significance of fans’ love as a comforting force during challenging times. Joonie also expressed a desire to be a constant presence for the fans, emphasising the value of shared “time and love and sincerity” in shaping their collective future.

He envisioned a time when, despite physical distance, the bond between BTS and their audience would remain unbroken. “We will smile broadly when we return,” he said.

Closing the letter with a temporary farewell, Namjoon assured fans that the goodbye was just for a “little while”.

He conveyed optimism for a joyous reunion in the future, expressing love and gratitude to the ARMY and hoping that his sentiments would reach them.

In the meantime, V, also known as Kim Taehyung, who is scheduled to commence his military service alongside RM today, expressed his sentiments on the South Korean microblogging platform Weverse. He wrote, “I think I will miss you all. I love you so much. Let’s wait till 2025 to meet again and make new memories.”
