Jharkhand Trust Vote on Monday: JMM-Led Alliance Confident of Victory

Ranchi, 5th February 2023: The MLAs of Jharkhand’s JMM-led alliance expressed confidence in winning the trust vote scheduled for Monday, following their return to Ranchi from Hyderabad on Sunday evening. The legislators, arriving in a chartered flight at Birsa Munda Airport, were subsequently transported to the Circuit House in the city in two buses.

Minister Alamgir Alam affirmed the unity among their MLAs, stating, “Our MLAs are united… We have the support of 48 to 50 legislators.” Echoing this sentiment, JMM lawmaker Mithilesh Thakur asserted that the coalition would successfully navigate the trust vote. Thakur claimed, “Many BJP legislators are also in support of the alliance in the state.”

However, Biranchi Narain, Chief Whip of the BJP, offered a contrary view, predicting the coalition’s defeat in the upcoming vote of confidence. Narain alleged, “The MLAs in Hyderabad were kept under strict surveillance, which indicates that they were not confident of winning.”

Chandigarh Mayoral Polls: AAP Councillor Moves SC for Urgent Hearing

The Supreme Court is set to hear on Monday the plea of an AAP councillor challenging a Punjab and Haryana High Court order that denied interim relief to the party, seeking fresh mayoral polls in Chandigarh. Councillor Kuldeep Kumar, a mayoral candidate, moved the apex court after the BJP swept the mayoral polls, retaining all three posts.

Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing councillor Kuldeep Kumar, brought the case before the bench of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, seeking an urgent hearing on Friday.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had alleged tampering with ballot papers by the presiding officer and demanded fresh polls under the supervision of a retired judge. The high court, however, denied interim relief, leading to the AAP councillor’s plea in the Supreme Court.
