‘Bothered About DP Instead Of GDP’: TMC MP Mahua Moitra Hits Out At PM Modi

Mahua Moitra, a member of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), stated on Friday that the Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill is a step in the right direction, but she also noted that the Centre has a strange propensity for neglecting the major issues and focusing on the headlines.

She reportedly took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for people to use the Tricolour as their social media profile picture from August 2 to 15. In her Lok Sabha address, Moitra stated, “For instance, the government urges us to focus on our DPs when we should be considering the GDP.”

“There are technological hurdles for transportation and utilisation since grey hydrogen, which is derived from natural gas, makes up 95% of the hydrogen generated at the moment. In order to advance green hydrogen, significant research and development efforts are needed. The transition from 95% grey hydrogen to green hydrogen won’t be simple,” she stated.

While warning about the energy conservation, TMC MP said, “We have to be really serious about energy conservation and encouraging energy conservation and it is just not enough to be a government of gasbags. We have got to do more than that.”

RK Singh, the minister of power and new and renewable energy, claimed that India is outpacing developed nations in the speed at which they fulfil their commitments to clean energy because it cares about the environment and is working to become self-sufficient in the energy sector.

Singh had earlier this week introduced the Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha.

After introducing the measure for consideration in the House, he made the comments.

The proposed law would force all structures with a connected load of at least 100 kW to obtain their energy needs from renewable sources.
