The Bombay High Court has requested a statement from the Serum Institute of India (SII), Microsoft founder Bill Gates, and others in response to a suit filed by a man who blamed Covishield side effects for his daughter’s death.
The petitioner has sought compensation from the vaccine manufacturer in the amount of Rs 1,000 crore, news agency ANI reported.

Dilip Lunwat, an Aurangabad resident, said that his daughter Snehal Lunawat, a medical student, was forced to take the anti-Covid vaccination at her college in Nashik on January 28 last year because she was a health professional.
Snehal was a doctor and senior lecturer at Dhamangaon’s SMBT dentistry college and hospital, PTI reported.
She had taken Covishield, a SII-developed vaccine.
Days later, she complained of terrible headaches and vomiting and was brought to the hospital, where doctors discovered bleeding in her brain, according to the petition. According to the allegation, Snehal died on March 1 as a result of vaccination adverse effects.
The petition was based on a report presented on October 2 by the Centre’s adverse events after immunisation (AEFI) committee.
The petitioner has also requested a response from Gates, whose organisation, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, has collaborated with the SII to speed up the process of producing and distributing 100 million doses of the vaccine. He also requested a response from the Union government, the state of Maharashtra, and the Drug Controller General of India.
According to the petition, Lunwat wanted justice for his daughter and “many more people who are likely to be murdered” as a result of similar occurrences of harmful consequences.
On August 26, a division bench of Justices S V Gangapurwala and Madhav Jamdar issued a notice to all respondents in the plea. The case has been scheduled for a hearing on November 17.
