Boiler of former MLA’s cold storage explodes: 27 laborers buried due to falling lenter in Meerut, UP, 7 killed; 16 injured

A major accident took place on Friday afternoon in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. The boiler of the former MLA’s cold store exploded. Due to which the lenter fell down. 27 laborers were buried under it. While 7 laborers have died. There has also been a leakage of ammonia in the cold store. Due to this many laborers fainted.

16 injured have been taken out from the debris and admitted to the district hospital. The team of Police, Fire Brigade and NDRF did the rescue till late night. Commissioner, DM, SSP, ADM City Magistrate, SDM, CMO and SP City reached the spot. Apart from these, Union Minister of State Sanjeev Balyan, former MLA Sangeet Som also reached the spot. There was an atmosphere of chaos in the area.

Former BSP MLA Chandraveer Singh has a cold storage in the name of Shiv Shakti in Daurala. The cold store was closed for a long time. Workers were called from Jammu and Kashmir to start the work today itself. According to the police, the boiler exploded in the cold store at 2 pm on Friday. Due to which ammonia gas leaked in the entire cold store.

Some laborers fainted due to gas leak. Meanwhile, the roof of the cold storage also collapsed, in which 27 laborers were buried under the debris. 2 died on the spot. People around immediately started relief and rescue operations. When the debris was removed, the death of 5 other laborers was informed.

11 ambulances were deployed to take the workers
Dozens of ambulances and top officials reached the spot after the accident. About 11 ambulances reached Meerut carrying the laborers buried under the debris. Teams of 9 fire brigade started the rescue operation. The buried laborers were pulled out by removing the debris from 2-3 JCBs. Policemen were also deployed at various places on the road for speedy evacuation of the ambulance.

4 people are still buried under the debris
Ajit Kumar Mishra told that 15 vehicles are engaged for rescue from Daraula Hospital. All the vehicles are coming and going. Information was received at 2 o’clock that the building had collapsed. 30 people are engaged in the rescue. 11 people have been found. 4 people are still buried under the debris.

Suraj, Sudesh, Dayamlal, Kakaram, Ramesh, Kalu, Rishipal, Raj Singh, Pawan and Yashpal etc. were injured in the accident. All of them have been admitted to the district hospital.

Rescue lasted till 10 pm
Rescued till 10 pm. All the debris has been removed from the spot. NDRF, SDRF teams have been sent back. All the injured in the accident have been admitted to LLRM Medical Hospital. Earlier the injured were sent to SDS Global Hospital, Future Hospital and Medical Hospital, but now the injured admitted in both SDS and Future Inn hospitals have also been shifted to Medical Hospital.

Former MLA’s daughter said – work started today itself
Manisha Ahlawat, daughter of former MLA Chandraveer Singh, the owner of the cold store, told that the workers had started work on the cold store today itself. Chandraveer’s health has deteriorated after the accident, due to which he is not able to reach the spot.

Union minister said – talks will be held with the government for compensation
Union Minister Sanjeev Balyan said that this is a big accident. Many people have died. All were from outside. It is also not known whether anyone is in the debris or not. The priority is to treat the injured. 12 people have been evacuated. 4 have died. 8 people are fine. Talks will be held with the government for compensation.

DM said – all 27 people were rescued
DM Deepak Meena told that 27 people were working. Everyone has been rescued. A total of 7 people have died. Rest of the condition is fine. All were from Jammu Kashmir and Udhampur district. All the relatives are being informed. A committee has been formed to find out the cause of the accident. The cause of the accident will be known when the report comes.
