The DMK government says that there is a three-language formula in the NEP, with the governor’s insistence to implement it, there is a message to implement Hindi.

The issue of Hindi language has again become the cause of politics in Tamil Nadu. BJP is also supporting the ruling DMK’s opposition to Hindi. Governor RN Ravi has asked all educational institutions to implement the National Education Policy (NEP). But the ruling DMK government in the state has come out against it. The DMK government says that only the two-language formula i.e. Tamil and English will be applicable in the state.

Whereas in the NEP which is being asked to be implemented by the Governor, Hindi is being proposed as a third language along with Tamil, English. State Higher Education Minister K. Ponmudi says that the third language will be kept as an option and not made it mandatory. The BJP unit of Tamil Nadu has declared its opposition to any attempt to impose Hindi by implementing the NEP in the state.

State BJP President K. Annamalai says that imposing any language in any state is wrong. The state unit of BJP will oppose it. Governor Ravi had recently asked the Vice-Chancellor of Bharathidasan University in Trichy, among other educational institutions, to implement the NEP. The DMK government says that there is a three-language formula in the NEP, with the governor’s insistence to implement it, there is a message to implement Hindi.

Political analyst Rangarajan said in a conversation with Bhaskar that in the recent governors’ conference, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also asked the governors to play an active role in implementing the NEP. This is an indication that the central government is asking governors to implement NEP in non-BJP ruled states. According to the constitution, the governor cannot be the administrator of a state.

Three-language NEP not acceptable: DMK

  • Governor Ravi says, NEP is a document for building a new India.
  • DMK says that Hindi will not be accepted as a three language.
  • The state unit of BJP also came out against the imposition of Hindi.

CM Stalin said – the state will make its own education policy
Chief Minister MK Stalin, soon after assuming power last year, has clearly said that his government will not implement the NEP at all. The government will make a separate education policy for the state by forming a committee of experts. DMK’s ally VCK party MP Ravikumar says that the governor should not run a parallel system. CM should bring Uniform University Act.
