Raju Jha had joined BJP even before the 2021 assembly elections.

Some miscreants shot dead BJP leader Raju Jha in East Bardhaman district of West Bengal on Saturday night. Raju was going to Kolkata with some of his friends. They stayed at a shop on the side of the highway in Shaktigarh. Meanwhile, the assailants who came in a vehicle opened fire on them. His friend Bratin Mukherjee has been seriously injured in the attack.

On Raju’s murder, Union Minister Anurag Thakur accused Mamta Banerjee of being biased and inciting violence with her speeches. He said that Mamta is an example of deteriorating law and order situation in the state.

The attackers fired 5 rounds
Former Bardhaman SP Kamanashish Sen told that Raju Jha was waiting for the others in his car outside the shop. Meanwhile, the assailants came there, one of them broke the glass of the car with a rod. After this, 5 rounds were fired at Raju. Due to this, Raju became unconscious there. However, he was declared brought dead on being taken to the hospital.

Police checking the CCTV of the scene
SP Sen said that the CCTV footage installed near the toll plaza and the spot on the highway are being scanned to identify the attackers. Along with this, the police is also recording the statements of the driver and eyewitnesses. Police say that the reason for Raju’s murder could not be revealed.

ED was about to call for questioning on Monday
Cases were also going on against Raju Jha on the charges of illegal coal business. According to reports, earlier Raju used to drive a coal truck. In 2003-04, Raju started illegal coal business. ED was about to interrogate him on Monday in a 2021 case.
