The results of 17 municipal corporations of Uttar Pradesh have come. BJP has done a clean sweep on all the seats. In Prayagraj, Ghaziabad, Kanpur, Lucknow, Mathura-Vrindavan and Agra, more than 1 lakh have defeated the opposition from inside. Even the accounts of SP, BSP and Congress were not opened. In Gorakhpur, the SP candidate created ruckus after the result came out. After this, SP supremo Akhilesh Yadav tweeted and demanded re-counting.

Shahjahanpur has got the first Mayor of BJP. BJP’s mayoral candidate Pramila Pandey has become mayor for the second time in Kanpur Municipal Corporation. He has won by more than 2 lakh votes. BJP’s Sushma Kharkwal has defeated SP’s Vandana Mishra by 204161 votes in Lucknow.

BJP Mayor candidate from Ghaziabad Sunita Dayal has won by 2.87 lakh votes. In Prayagraj, BJP’s Umesh Chandra Ganesh Kesarwani has defeated SP candidate Ajay Kumar Srivastava by 1 lakh 29 thousand 394 votes. Ajay Kumar got 1 lakh 62 thousand 42 votes. A total of 494344 votes were cast here.

SP candidate Kajal Nishad’s uproar in Gorakhpur on defeat
In Gorakhpur, SP candidate Kajal Nishad created ruckus after her defeat. Kajal Nishad said, “How does this data get changed in the computer. How do I believe that this is a fair election? How do I believe that there is no rigging? Officials should explain to me.” Akhilesh Yadav has also demanded re-counting.

Akhilesh tweeted, “The Election Commission should take immediate cognizance of the news of rigged counting of votes in Gorakhpur and check the veracity of the counting of votes and get a re-counting done if found wrong.”

SP supporters are alleging rigging in the counting of votes. There was an argument between the SP leader and Kajal Nishad with the district officials. Kajal Nishad’s supporter was dragged out by the police. After this the matter got heated.

150 votes cast at Minister Nandi’s booth in Prayagraj

In Prayagraj, cabinet minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi’s ward 80 Mohtsimganj suffered a humiliating defeat for the BJP. Independent candidate Kusum Lata Gupta has won from this ward by 1674 votes. While BJP candidate Vijay Vaish got 1275 votes. BJP got only 150 votes in booth number 932 of Nandi. Abhilasha Gupta, wife of the outgoing mayor and minister Nandi, also cast her vote at the same booth.

As soon as the victory of SP candidate Nisha from Ward 102 Begumpurwa of Kanpur was announced, her husband Akil Sanu burst into tears.  Akil told that his wife got 2152 votes.  She has won by 471 votes.

2012: Independents won in Bareilly and Prayagraj, BJP mayors were elected elsewhere
In 2012, the civic elections were contested on 12 mayor seats. BJP was successful in saving its stronghold. Mayor of BJP was elected on 10 seats. While 2 seats were taken by independent candidates in their account. These included Dr. IS Tomar of Bareilly and Abhilasha, wife of Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’ in Prayagraj. The BJP had won the mayoral posts in Meerut, Ghaziabad, Moradabad, Aligarh, Agra, Kanpur Nagar, Jhansi, Lucknow, Gorakhpur and Varanasi.
