BJP, Congress councilors absent from Purnigam’s swearing-in ceremony

BJP and Congress councilors absent during the swearing-in ceremony of councilors at Kolkata Purnigam. There was also a newly elected councilor who did not get a seat in the mayoral council. However, many councilors of the ruling party took oath on this day. Firhad Hakim remained by the side of his colleagues from the whole event.



Three newly elected BJP councilors Sajal Ghosh, Meena Devi Purhit and Vijay Ojha were not present at the swearing-in ceremony. Besides, Congress elected councilor Santosh Pathak was also not present on the day. The swearing in of the councilors started after 2 pm on that day. The newly elected councilors took oath in Hindi and Urdu besides Bengali. City Secretary Khalil Ahmed administered the oath to the councilors.

State Prime Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya was present on the occasion. Sumon Singh, Sachin Kumar Singh took oath in Hindi. Iqbal Ahmed took oath in Urdu. Many young Trinamool councilors, including Sourav Basu, also took the oath on the day. Many new councilors bowed to Firhad Hakim and took charge. However, Indrani Saha Bandyopadhyay was not present at the swearing-in ceremony. Questions have started to arise in various quarters about his absence. Note that this time Indrani Saha Bandyopadhyay did not get the responsibility of the Mayor’s Council.

It is learned that the mayor and the mayor’s council will take oath on December 26. After taking the oath, an outline will be made as to how the work of Purnigam will be conducted. According to the proclamation issued before the election, the work of Purnigam will be conducted. Note that Firhad Hakim will be sworn in as mayor. Atin Ghosh will be sworn in as Deputy Mayor. In addition, 12 more councilors will be sworn in as mayor councilors.
