The Bharatiya Janata Party changed one of its candidates in Himachal late on Thursday evening. The party has nominated Neelam Nayyar in place of Indira Kapoor from Chamba assembly seat. Neelam Nayyar is the wife of sitting BJP MLA from Chamba, Pawan Nayyar. In the first list of party candidates released on the morning of October 19, the BJP high command made Indira Kapoor a candidate from Chamba seat by cutting the ticket of sitting MLA Pawan Nayyar.

There was a huge protest in Chamba against the announcement of Indira Kapoor as the party candidate and the cancellation of Pawan Nayyar’s ticket. BJP workers had openly met here and gave an ultimatum to the party high command that if the ticket was not changed here, they would oppose the party candidate Indira Kapoor.

Sensing the opposition of Indira Kapoor and the mood of the people of the area, the BJP high command was forced to announce the name of Mrs. Neelam Nayyar, wife of Pawan Nayyar, as the party candidate from Chamba seat within 48 hours. Meanwhile, it is being said that one of the reasons for the cancellation of Indira Kapoor’s ticket is also a case going on in the court against her in which she has been punished.

The party came on the back foot due to the protest

With the announcement of Indira Kapoor’s name from Chamba seat on the morning of 19 October, there was a revolt in the party here. After the announcement of the ticket, his supporters gathered at the house of BJP’s sitting MLA Pawan Nayyar. In the meeting held at Pawan Nayyar’s house, BJP workers told the party high command that if the ticket is not changed from Chamba seat, all the office bearers and workers will resign from here.

Meanwhile, party candidate Indira Kapoor also released the counter poster. In this poster, Indira Kapoor said that she is the real candidate of BJP and will file nomination. Pawan Nayyar is spreading confusion among people. He appealed that everyone respect the decision of the party and go with him.

However, in the evening, the BJP high command issued a letter to cut Indira Kapoor’s ticket and replace Mrs. Neelam Nayyar as a candidate.

In this case, the court sentenced Indira Kapoor to three years’ imprisonment and a fine of ten thousand rupees. Indira Kapoor filed a petition against this decision in the Himachal Pradesh High Court, which was heard in the High Court on October 20. During this, the High Court gave a stay on the sentence awarded by the lower court.

Meanwhile, instead of taking any risk in the election, BJP cut Indira Kapoor’s ticket and made Neelam Nayyar the party candidate.

BJP announced remaining 6 tickets

Earlier on Thursday afternoon, Himachal Pradesh declared its candidates for the remaining 6 seats. BJP has fielded former minister Ravindra Ravi as its candidate from Jwalamukhi seat. However, he was a contender for ticket from Dehra seat. Similarly, Jwalamukhi’s sitting MLA Ramesh Dhawala has been made a candidate from Dehra. The swap of the assembly constituencies of these two was done on the instructions of the party high command.

Similarly, the party has fielded its former MP Maheshwar Singh from Kullu seat. Although there was talk of giving ticket to Maheshwar Singh’s son Hiteshwar from this seat, the BJP has made Maheshwar Singh its candidate without taking any risk for the mission repeat.

Similarly, Maya Sharma from Badsar seat of Hamirpur district, Prof. from Haroli seat of Una district. Ramkumar has been given ticket.

The BJP high command has fielded new face Kaul Negi from Rampur seat in Shimla district. The party had nominated retired IAS PC Darak from here in the 2017 elections, but this time the bet has been placed on Kaul Negi in his place.

Dhumal camp was heavy on CM Jairam in Barsar

BJP has given ticket to Smt. Maya Sharma from Badsar seat of Hamirpur district. Maya Sharma’s husband Baldev Sharma is the President of Hamirpur district BJP and was elected MLA from Barsar seat for three consecutive terms in 1998, 2002 and 2008. Baldev Sharma belongs to the camp of former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and in his home district Dhumal has managed to get a ticket to his close friend.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur himself was lobbying from Dhumal Camp to get a ticket this time to the family of Baldev Sharma, who lost two consecutive elections from Barsar seat in the year 2012 and 2017.

Record of a female candidate is maintained in Hamirpur

BJP has always been giving ticket to a woman in one or the other seat out of 5 assembly seats in Hamirpur district. This time Dr. Anil Dhiman was made the candidate after cutting the ticket of Kamlesh Kumari, the sitting MLA of Bhoranj, then it was discussed that only a woman would get the ticket from Barsar.

Although there was an advocacy of giving ticket to late BJP leader Rakesh Sharma alias Babli’s wife or his brother, but ultimately the ticket was finalized in Baldev Sharma’s family.

Smriti Irani had given indications already one and a half weeks ago

Chopped leaf of MLA Hoshiyar Singh

The high command has cut the leaf of Independent MLA from Dehra Hoshiar Singh, who joined the BJP six months ago. He himself was brought into the party by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur and was lobbying to get Hoshiyar Singh a ticket from Dehra, but the Dhumal camp was against it. In the end, the party preferred the choice of Dhumal camp and fielded Ramesh Dhawala from Dehra in place of Hoshiyar Singh.

Hoshiar Singh has already announced to contest as an independent in the event of not getting the ticket.
