‘BJP Benefits When Innocents Are Killed In Kashmir’: Mehbooba Mufti On Rajouri Terror Attacks

Jammu & Kashmir People’s Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party over the Rajouri terror attacks. She alleged that the BJP’s policy is to demonise Kashmiris and build narratives against the minorities.

“The BJP is benefitted when innocent people are killed in Kashmir as they run a narrative against minorities and demonise Kashmiris. There is no accountability to the question of why did this incident happen,” Mufti was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

Six people were killed in two terror strikes in Rajouri on Sunday and Monday. While four people were shot dead by terrorists who opened fire in a residential area on Sunday evening, two fell victims to an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast.

She sought to link the terror strikes to the abrogation of Article 370. “Ladakh is also our part if people there can get some relief it is good. They [Centre] did not form any committee for the abrogation of Article 370. Then why is there a drama of a high-power committee formation in Ladakh,” she asked. Mufti was referring to the formation of a 17-member high-power committee constituted by the Centre to discuss measures to protect Ladakh’s unique culture, language and employment. The panel will be chaired by Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai.

She also claimed that locals in Rajouri held the Indian Army responsible for the attack as it took no measures to prevent the attack. “People in the area say that they informed about the terrorist activities. In Rajouri, too, people complained that Army was responsible for it. Army said they will conduct an inquiry. Where is the report,” she asked.

On Tuesday, Mufti slammed the terror attacks in Rajouri and said the BJP’s claims of having ended militancy were “bogus”. “Condemn this cowardly act & condolences to their families. Despite being under BJP rule & its bogus claims of ending militancy, violence continues unabated,” she tweeted.
