Birds Trapped In Kite Strings Rescued In Dandia Bazaar | Vadodara News – Times of India

VADODARA: On Monday morning, they got an emergency call following which the firemen rushed to the Dandiya Bazaar area of the city. But it wasn’t a fire call. The fire brigade was summoned to rescue a pigeon that was hanging from a wire 50 foot high in air.
The firemen climbed up and rescued the hapless bird that was then taken for medical treatment immediately. Fire brigade officials said that many birds are still getting entangled in the kite strings that are hanging from power lines or trees. “We have been getting rescue calls even many days after Uttarayan,” said firemen.
Dozens of birds injured by kite strings have been rescued by fire brigade as well as NGOs. Some days ago, a kite that was hanging from a tree was rescued by the firemen. A group of youngsters from the city has been supplying medicines and bearing other expenses for treating hundreds of birds that were injured due to kite strings.
Some migratory birds that fly through the city too get injured due to kite strings and have to undergo treatment for months before they can fly.
