Kumar took oath as the CM after quitting the NDA alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party fearing the ‘Maharashtra MVA game’ after it was reported that Janata Dal (United) leader RCP Singh was in touch with the party members after his resignation from JD(U).

Soon after ending the nearly two-year alliance, the Nitish Kumar-led JDU joined hands with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and formed the government in Bihar.
