Big relief to students returned from Ukraine: Internship will be able to be done in India, NMC has changed the rules – no state will take fees, entry will be done through exams

In the ongoing war in Ukraine, the future of not only Ukraine but also of Indian students has been turned upside down. In such a situation, the National Medical Commission has given a big relief to the students returning to India after leaving their medical studies in Ukraine. The commission has said that medical students who have completed their degree will get an opportunity to do internship in India. 7.5% seats of internship have also been fixed for students coming from abroad.

No fee for internship, exam will have to be given

The National Medical Commission said that students returning from Ukraine are being given a chance to complete their missed internship. Till now internship fee was not to be paid only in Delhi. But now fees will not have to be paid in any state. Applying students must first pass the Foreign Medical Graduate (FMGE) Screening Test to complete the internship.

The Government of India has decided to provide free internship to the medical students who have returned from Ukraine, for which they will have to pass the entrance exam.

What is FMEG?

Any Indian student who has obtained primary medical qualification from a medical college abroad and wants to get provisional from the Medical Council of India, must clear the Foreign Medical Graduate (FMGE) Screening Test. These exams are multiple choice based. There is no negative marking for wrong answer.

According to the National Medical Commission Rules 2021 for Medical Students, medical students have to do two internships for registration in India. First from the place from where he got MBBS degree and then coming to India.

Indian students going to Ukraine for many years for MBBS degree

Ukraine is famous for MBBS degree. Most of the Indian students have been going to Ukraine for their degree. According to the Ministry of Education and Science, there are about 18,000 Indian students in Ukraine. There are many students among them, who leave half their studies, while there are some who have to leave their initial studies and come back. National Medical Commission is giving them a chance in India.

The rule has been changed in view of the situation

The National Medical Commission’s rules regarding Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGE) are very strict. Till now there was no such rule, which allowed medical students studying abroad to come to India and complete their studies, even after completing MBBS from any other country or university, there were problems. But in view of the current situation, the Government of India is giving exemption to the students.
