Big decision on OPS in Himachal cabinet meeting: Benefit will be available from April, OPS pension will be given to retired personnel after May 15, 2003

A major decision regarding OPS has been taken in the cabinet meeting chaired by Himachal Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu. The government has decided that 1.36 lakh employees of Himachal will be benefited by the implementation of this scheme and the new employees who will be appointed in government service in future will come under the old pension system.

The cabinet has decided that these employees will also be brought under GPF. NPS employees who have retired after May 15, 2003, will be given OPS pension from the next date.

Rules will be amended
The government will make necessary amendments in the rules to implement the OPS and thereafter the continued contribution by the government and employees to the NPS will cease from April 1, 2023. The cabinet has also decided that if the employee wants to remain in NPS, he will have to give his consent.

One thousand crore will be spent on OPS in 2023-24
On implementation of OPS, the government will spend an additional one thousand crore in the year 2023-24. The cabinet has also passed a proposal to return the NPS amount of Rs 8 thousand crore to the state from the central government. The cabinet has asked the Finance Department to amend the rules and issue necessary instructions in this regard.

780 ASHA workers will be placed under NHM
It was decided to appoint 780 ASHA workers on incentive basis under the National Health Mission. It will work to provide better health services to the people. The meeting also approved the guidelines for engagement of Facilitators under NHM.

Students of class 1st to 8th will get 600 The cabinet has given Rs 600 per student through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) to all girls, boys of SC, ST and BPL families studying in class 1st to 8th to buy uniforms. This amount will be transferred to the name of these students or their mother for school uniform and this will benefit around 3.70 lakh students of the state.

Toll barrier auction and approval to lease tender
The cabinet also gave its nod to lease out toll barriers through auction and tender process for the year 2023-24 under the Himachal Pradesh Tolls Act, 1975. The cabinet has decided to rationalize the engineering staff of the Forest Department. The services of 26 engineers of the department will be merged with PWD, Jal Shakti Department, Himachal Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation, Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board and Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited.

Another decision of former Jairam government reversed
The cabinet has canceled the Himachal Pradesh Loktantra Prahari Samman Yojana of the previous Jairam government. For this, the cabinet has approved the repeal of the Himachal Pradesh Democracy Sentinel Honor Act, 2021 and the Himachal Pradesh Democracy Sentinel Honor Rules, 2022.

Apart from this, it was decided to fill the post of Assistant Professor in the Department of Community Medicine in Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College, Ner Chowk, Mandi for the convenience of the people of the area.
