Bhediya Box Office Collection Day 1: Varun Dhawan-Starrer Has Decent Start

New Delhi: The horror-comedy ‘Bhediya’, starring Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon, opened in theatres on Friday. The success of ‘Drishyam 2’ appears to have affected ‘Bhediya’, despite predictions from trade experts to the contrary. The movie had a decent opening weekend at the box office, but failed to breach the double-digit milestone.

According to trade reportsBhediya’s opening day take was Rs 7.48 crore. The movie made Rs 3.58 Crore in total across all major theatre chains.

Taran Adarsh, a trade analyst and movie critic, posted the Day 1 collection report on Twitter and wrote,”#Bhediya opens way below the mark on Day 1, despite favourable word of mouth… Reported better occupancy during evening / night shows, which gives it a chance to gather momentum… Biz needs to multiply on Day 2 and 3 for a healthy weekend total… Fri ₹ 7.48 cr. #India biz.

On the other hand, ‘Drishyam 2‘, starring Ajay Devgn, finished a week in theatres and brought in a total of Rs 4.25 crore on Day 8 from national chains.

The plot of ‘Bhediya’, which is set in Arunachal Pradesh, centers on a young man named Bhaskar who is bitten by a wolf  while exploring the wilderness. Eventually, he too begins to change into a werewolf.

According to the movie’s review on ABP Live,”Bhediya opens with a narration of the Wolf and the Seven Lambs story from Panchtantra which introduces Sharad Kalkar in a marginal role only to be eaten by a werewolf. Like the Panchatantra story, the film is filled with such folklore references, drawing upon the legacy of oral cultures, traditions and storytelling. And, that is why ‘Bhediya’ manages to land like its predecessor film ‘Stree’.”

Amar Kaushik directed the comedy-horror movie ‘Bhediya’, which has Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon in the lead roles. The movie is the third installment in Vijan’s horror franchise. ‘Bhediya’ premiered in theatres on November 25.
