West Bengal CID has summoned an Assam-based businessman in connection with the seizure of cash from Jharkhand MLAs. It has been told that the name of the businessman is Ashok Kumar Dhanuka. Police has summoned him in connection with the investigation. Dhanuka is said to be close to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of West Bengal reached Guwahati and put up a notice outside Dhanuka’s house asking him to appear on Monday. However, the businessman’s mobile phone was found switched off, due to which there was no response from his side.

Significantly, three Congress MLAs from Jharkhand – Irfan Ansari, Rajesh Kachhap and Naman Bixal Kongari were arrested by the West Bengal Police on July 31. The police took this action after seizing Rs 49 lakh in cash from a car. The West Bengal CID took over the investigation from the Howrah Rural Police.

It is not yet known when the officials of the neighboring state put up the notice at Dhanuka’s house. However, a four-member team of West Bengal CID visited Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Assam on August 3 as part of the investigation into the cash seizure.
