Australian Open 2024: Alexander Zverev Forgets To Wish Father On Birthday, Sings ‘Happy Birthday’ Along With Fans- WATCH

The season’s first Grand slam has already witnessed some spectacular sporting action. While India’s tennis ace Sumit Nagal scripted history when he became the first Indian to beat seeded opponent at a Slam since 1989 in the first round of the men’s singles, former champion Naomi Osaka made an early exit from the competition. Apart from the on-court sporting brilliance, several antics on the sidelines of Australian Open 2024 have also made headlines and the latest among them involves German tennis star Alexander Zverev.

Zverev registered a win in his fourth-round fixture against British tennis player Cameron Norrie in a match that lasted five sets. Even though the match went all the way down to the wire, eventually Zverev emerged victorious 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, 4-6 and 7-6. Post a thrilling win when the presented asked Zverev about how it was a beautiful birthday present for his father who was present on the court, the 26-year-old revealed that he had completly forgotten about his father’s birthday.

“Good thing you told me that. I completely forgot. I am very, very sorry,” he said.

Zverev, nonetheless, sang the ‘Happy Birthday’ song for his father along with the fans present at the venue. The video of the same was shared by Australian Open on its official channel.

Alexander Zverev vs Carlos Alcaraz In Quarter-Finals

Meanwhile, Zverev’s victory has set up a quarterfinal fixture between the Greek and the Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz. While Zverev was made to work hard by Norrie in his fourth-round match, Alcaraz, by contrast eased past Miomir Kecmanovic in straight sets to head into the quarter-final. The Spaniard, among the favouirtes to go all the way to the finals, took the match 6-4, 6-4, 6-0 against his Serbian opponent. Alexander Zverev vs Carlos Alcaraz quarter-finals fixture will take place at the Australian Open 2024 on Wednesday (January 24).
