His organization ‘Waris Punjab De’ is in limelight because of Khalistan supporter Amritpal Singh, who belongs to Punjab. Talking about this organization, the farmer’s movement and hoisting the Khalsa flag on the Red Fort first come to mind. Punjabi actor Deep Sidhu, who was accused of the Red Fort violence in Delhi, formed this organization.

After the violence in Red Fort, Deep Sidhu had announced to form ‘Waris Punjab De’ organization on September-2021. Due to the sudden death of Deep Sidhu during a road accident in Haryana in February-2022, his supporters started feeling lonely. Amritpal took advantage of this situation. One of the major reasons for Amritpal’s popularity among Khalistan supporters was that he made Punjab a base to further his separatist agenda.

Punjabi actor Deep Sidhu, who became famous in the country and the world due to his brilliant English during the farmer's movement, had announced the formation of 'Waris Punjab De' organization on 29 September 2021 in Chandigarh.

Punjabi actor Deep Sidhu, who became famous in the country and the world due to his brilliant English during the farmer’s movement, had announced the formation of ‘Waris Punjab De’ organization on 29 September 2021 in Chandigarh.

Agenda of ‘Waris Punjab De’
To know the Waris Punjab De organization, first of all, it is necessary to remember the words of Deep Sidhu on 29 September 2021. Deep Sidhu while talking to reporters in Chandigarh that day had said that by centralizing all the powers of the central government, the states have been deprived of their basic rights. Punjab is suffering the most from this policy.

The list of betrayal done by the Center to Punjab is very long and it cannot be tolerated any longer. So their struggle will continue till the states get autonomy and fundamental rights.

Actually ‘Waris Punjab De’ claims to fight to protect the rights of Punjab. Deep Sidhu told that the purpose of this organization is to advance the fight for the rights of Punjab. Deep Sidhu had said that his organization will not run on any political agenda, but its relationship with politics and the people demanding Khalistan were associated with it from the beginning. Simranjit Singh Mann, who won the by-election for the Sangrur Lok Sabha seat, has been supporting this organization. Simranjit has always been raising voice for Khalistan.

Went to Dubai after 12th, didn’t even wear turban
Amritpal Singh, 30, was born in Jallupur Kheda village under Baba Bakala tehsil of Amritsar district. He completed his early education in the village school. After his 12th standard, the whole family moved to Dubai in 2012 and Amritpal took over his uncle’s transport business there. Most of his relatives already live in Dubai.

Before February-2022, Amritpal was highly influenced by the foreign lifestyle and did not even wear a turban. Most of his time was spent on social media. Even today, there are many such photos of Amritpal on social media in which he is seen in short hair and trim beard.

Things changed after the death of Deep Sidhu in February 2022
On February-2022, Deep Sidhu’s car met with an accident in which he died. After that the post of chief in ‘Waris Punjab De’ organization became vacant. Deep Sidhu’s sudden death changed everything and his supporters started feeling disappointed. Amritpal, who returned to Punjab in 2022, took advantage of this and started connecting people by creating a website ‘Waris Punjab De’. Gradually he started projecting himself as the new head of ‘Waris Punjab De’.

Deep Sidhu used to talk only about Punjab. Amritpal also chose the same path but kept his words sharper than Deep Sidhu. Due to some videos becoming increasingly viral on social media, the youth also joined together. In September-2022, suddenly Amritpal Singh’s name started popping up for the post of ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief.

‘Waris Punjab De’ came in the limelight
Till the death of Deep Sidhu, ‘Waris Punjab De’ organization was not very popular but after the arrival of Amritpal, it suddenly came into the limelight. The major reason for Amritpal’s popularity among the supporters of Khalistan was also that he made Punjab a base to further his separatist agenda. Till earlier, all the people promoting the Khalistan Movement were living in other countries due to which the people here did not connect much with them. Amritpal’s popularity increased rapidly by advocating Khalistan while living in Punjab.

Deep Sidhu’s family protested
Controversies also started as soon as Amritpal’s name surfaced as the new chief of ‘Waris Punjab De’. Deep Sidhu’s family members themselves raised questions on this. Deep Sidhu’s family has been repeatedly saying that Amritpal was selected in a wrong way. Although Amritpal has been opposing it. Amritpal claims that he agreed to sit on this post only after the consent of Deep Sidhu’s family members.

On September 29, 2022, on the first anniversary of Waris Punjab De, Amritpal Singh was crowned as the head of this institution by organizing a program at Rode village in Moga district. Rode village belongs to Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwala.

Coronation in the village of Bhindranwala
On 29 September 2022, on the first anniversary of ‘Waris Punjab De’ organization, a big program was organized in Rode village of Moga district. In the same programme, Amritpal was crowned as the new chief of ‘Waris Punjab De’. It is believed that Rode village was chosen very carefully for this programme. Rode is the village of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwala. Along with Sikh leaders, many leaders with radical thinking had also reached the program related to Amritpal’s coronation.

Arrow like Bhindranwala, anti-national agenda
Amritpal describes himself as influenced by Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwala. Like Bhindranwala, he started connecting the youth with him and expanding the area of the organization. He used to dress like Bhindranwala and get himself photographed in the same style. Amritpal wears a blue round heavy turban in the same style as Bhindranwala and carries a small saber in his white clothes. For this reason, he came to be known as Jarnail Singh Bhindranwala-2.0.

Bhindranwala had raised the demand for a separate country of Khalistan for Sikhs in the 1980s. Amritpal’s speeches used to incite the crowd, which made him popular among radical Sikh youth. With the aim of dividing Sikhs and other communities, gradually he started spreading the word that Sikhism is in danger and Sikhs are slaves.

Challenge given to Modi-Shah
Amritpal has been justifying his demand for creation of Khalistan by arguing that if the demand of Hindu Rashtra by fundamentalist Hindus is justified, then what is wrong with the demand of Sikh nation? He also cited the assassination of Beant Singh several times to further his agenda. He even said that former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had to pay the price for opposing Khalistan. Even PM Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann cannot stop him from demanding Khalistan.

Former CM Captain Amarinder Singh has protested
Former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh raised questions on Amritpal Singh during a meeting on 1 September 2022. Captain said that Amritpal has come from Dubai and his entire family is in Dubai. Captain had claimed that the neighboring country Pakistan is getting all this done.

Giani Harpreet Singh, the Jathedar of the Akal Takht, which is considered to be the supreme body of the Sikhs, also termed his action as wrong. All the political parties of Punjab criticized Amritpal.

Encouraged after the Ajnala violence
After the Ajnala violence, Amritpal’s supporters were uplifted. Amritpal himself openly started giving challenges to the police. His supporters even threatened to lay siege to the police station again if a case was registered regarding the Ajnala violence.

Meanwhile, the police started the process of canceling the arms licenses of Amritpal’s supporters. This enraged Amritpal Singh again.

Name came in Sudhir Suri murder case
