Assembly Election Results Updates: Modi, Shah, Yogi Among Star-studded List for U’khand CM’s Oath Ceremony

from Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP president JP Nadda, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Himachal Pradesh counterpart Jai Ram Thakur will attend the ceremony, he said.

Dhami and Pramod Sawant will be the chief ministers of Uttarakhand and Goa, respectively, for a second successive term after the BJP Monday weighed in favor of youth, continuity, and ability to perform under pressure ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

“The state’s development will get a fillip and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s grand vision for the development of Uttarakhand will be turned into reality,” Dhami said. Though Dhami, 46, the youngest chief minister of the state, was a clear favorite for the top job despite losing his Khatima seat, which he represented twice in 2012 and 2017, whatever doubt remained about the leader getting a second term were scotched as the BJP central leadership opted for stability in the state that saw three chief ministers in four months in 2021.

Sawant has been rewarded for overcoming anti-incumbency and steering the party to victory despite resignations by some key figures, including the son of the redoubtable Manohar Parrikar, over ticket allocation. Under his stewardship of the state, the BJP put up its second best performance ever – winning 20 seats. The BJP had won a simple majority under Parrikar in 2012 when it won 21 seats.

Meanwhile, the stage is set for a grand swearing-in ceremony of the second Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh at the sprawling Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ikana stadium in the state capital on March 25. According to sources, an all important meeting of the BJP legislature party to elect its leader will be held Thursday evening, in which Union Union Home minister Amit Shah and former Chief Minister of Jharkhand Raghubar Das will take part as observer and co-observer.

The formality of electing Yogi Adityanath as the new chief minister will be done in the meeting, they said on Tuesday. Shah will also deliberate on the constitution of the ministry in the meeting with the newly elected MLAs, they said.

On the other hand, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Thursday, official sources said. It is going to be Mann’s first meeting with Modi after being sworn in as the chief minister of Punjab.

Mann will be meeting Modi at 11 am on Thursday, the sources said. Mann in a tweet in Hindi said, After taking over as the chief minister of Punjab, I have sought time from prime minister and home minister for a courtesy call and to discuss issues related to Punjab.”

Mann was administered oath as the chief minister on March 16 at Khatkar Kalan, the ancestral village of legendary freedom fighter Bhagat Singh in Punjab’s Shaheed Bhagat Singh (SBS) Nagar district. Modi had congratulated him for becoming the Punjab chief minister.
