Dipendra Singh Airee made T20I cricket history breaking Yuvraj Singh’s 12-ball T20I fifty record. Playing against Mongolia in the first match of the Asian Games 2023 Men’s cricket Airee smacked eight sixes to reach his half-century in just nine deliveries.

Kushal Malla also etched his name in the history books shattering the first T20I century en route to his unbeaten 137 off 50 delvieries. He took a mere 34 deliveries to reach the triple-figure mark besting the efforts of Rohit Sharma, David Miller and S Wickramasekara who took 35 deliveries each to score 100 in T20Is.

Nepal ended up with 314/3 vs Mongolia, which is also a record for the highest team total in men’s T20I cricket. The highest T20I total though held by the Bahrain women’s team who put up 318/1 against Saudi Arabian women in 2022.

Dipendra, one of Nepal’s rising stars arrived on the scene after playing in the 2016 U-19 World Cup. A lower-order hitter Airee has played 44 T20Is for Nepal scoring 1103 runs at a strike-rae of 132.55. He has 21 wickets at an average of 17.95.

Kushal Malla made heads turn first when as a 15-year-old he became the youngest batsman to score a one-day international half-century, breaking the record of none other than Sachin Tendulkar. Malla has scored 320 runs in just 16 T20Is at a strike rate of 180.79 and has six wickets to his name.

After losing openers Kushal Bhurtel (19) and Aasif Sheikh (16) in the first eight overs, Kushal Malla and skipper Rohit Paudel ransacked 193 runs in 65 balls to help Nepal reach its highest men’s T20I team total. Malla scored unbroken 137 off 50 deliveries with eight fours and 12 sixes, while Paudel scored 61 off 21 (2×4, 6×6). To finish, Dipendra Singh Airee hit eight sixes for a 10-ball 52.
