The government took a major decision on Thursday related to military hardware or defense equipment made in the country. According to this, equipment worth Rs 70,584 crore will be purchased for the army. This decision has been taken by the Defense Acquisition Council ie DAC. Its chairman is Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.

In the meeting of DAC, the purchase of 60 Made in India UH Marine helicopters, BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles for the Indian Navy, 307 ATAGS howitzers for the Indian Army, 9 ALH Dhruv helicopters has been approved. This decision is also important in the sense that for three years, tension with China is continuing on the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh.

DAC approves AoN
The DAC approved a specific proposal Acceptance of Necessity (AoN). This money will be released under this. This is a special programme. Its purpose includes Indian or indigenously made equipment and weapons. A total of Rs 2,71,538 crore has now been approved for the financial year 2022-23. 98.9% of this will be spent on buying goods made in India only.

In a statement issued on social media by Rajnath’s office, it was said – this will not only bring Indian manufacturers on a single platform, but we will also be able to achieve the goal of self-reliant India.

The biggest advantage will be that the dependence on foreign vendors in the defense sector can be reduced to a great extent.

Coast Guard will get four helicopters
According to media reports, 9 Dhruv Mark 4 helicopters will be acquired for the Indian Coast Guard for more than Rs 3800 crore. Officials said that the UH Marine helicopter and Dhuvar helicopter being procured for the Navy is a variant of the helicopter, which will be ready by 2025-26 for surveillance of maritime borders and other needs.
