Army Day: World’s largest national flag displayed in Jaisalmer | Jaipur News – Times of India

JAISALMER: On the occasion of 74th Army Day, the world’s largest Khadi national flag was displayed on the highest hill near Jaisalmer military station on Saturday.
The flag was 225 feet long in length and 150 feet wide in width. It was unveiled by the GoC of the Battle Axe Division, Major General Yogendra Singh Mann.

A whopping 4,500 metres of hand-spun and hand-woven Khadi cotton bunting was used to make the flag which covers a total area of 33,750 square feet. The Ashok Chakra in the flag has a diameter of 30 feet. It weighs approximately 1,400 kg. Manufactured by Khadi Dyers and Printers, the flag is a “befitting tribute to the Indian heritage” as it is made of hundred per cent Khadi material, the Army said in an official statement.
The hoisting of flag commemorated the 75th year of India’s independence being celebrated as ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’.

Defence spokesman Lt. Col. Amitabh Sharma said, “On the occasion of Army Day, on 15 January 22, the Southern Command unveiled a monumental national flag of size 225 feet by 150 feet at Jaisalmer Military Station.”
Army said this flag showcases the “pride and aspiration of people of our country with an aim to knit all citizens in support of glory and spirit of nationalism.”
On the occasion, Jaisalmer Air Force Station commander Group Captain AS Pannu, Jaisalmer’s Ex-Maharawal Chaitanya Raj Singh, erstwhile royal family member Vikram Singh Nachna, senior army officers and general people were present.
