Fans were eagerly waiting for Jessica Capshaw’s return as Dr Arizona Robbins and now, with the upcoming season, their wishes are finally coming true.

Grey’s Anatomy fans have reason to rejoice as Jessica Capshaw, known for her role as Dr Arizona Robbins, is set to make a return in the upcoming season 20. Capshaw, who was part of the medical drama for 10 seasons from 2009 to 2018, left the show along with Sarah Drew at the end of season 14. As per the storyline, Arizona was shown moving from Seattle to New York for her daughter Sofia to be closer with her other mother, Callie. Fans were eagerly waiting for her return and now, with the upcoming season, their wishes are finally coming true. She won’t return alone, as Alex Landi, who played Dr Nico Kim and newcomers Natalie Morales and Freddy Miyares will also be appearing. As the premiere is just around the corner, fans can expect more surprises.

In a recent interview, producer Meg Marinis shedding light on the return of Arizona told Deadline, “We could always be expecting people to come back from the past. It’s a 20 season show, we’ve got so many people that we’d love to have come and go. Jessica, it had been so long since we had seen that character. We’re constantly having pitches come up in the writers room, I’m always asking them to think of people that we can see again because it’s such a nice way to honour the show and also, our show is about teaching and learning.”

“We’ve got these new interns and she is an innovative surgeon in fetal medicine and she also has the peeds element to her, so I thought, how interesting for her to come back and see this new class. I think there’s got to be so much fun to be had. I think everyone is going to be really happy to see her, we show a lot of the things that people loved about Arizona, her humour, her hard work as a doctor, her teaching, her friendships with the people that she loved at Grey Sloan. And it was such a joy to have Jessica back on set. It was like she’d never left, it was a seamless transition,” the producer explained.

While fans are speculating that Jessica Capshaw will be featured in multiple episodes, Meg Marinis clarified that Dr Arizona Robbins will be appearing in just one episode.

Other than Jessica reprising her role as Arizona and Alex Landi returning as Nico Kim in Grey’s Anatomy Season 20, fans can also look forward to seeing Ellen Pompeo’s return as Meredith Grey. Pompeo, who played the iconic character, left the medical drama after Season 19. The upcoming season is set to premiere on March 14.
