As per Bloomberg, Apple TV app could undergo a transformation as Apple looks to double down on its streaming ambitions, and offer a consolidated experience.
Apple’s TV app, and its Apple TV+ subscription service are slowly rising up the ranks in the streaming business, and now, it appears that the Apple TV app could undergo a transformation as Apple looks to double down on its streaming ambitions. In doing so, Apple aims to consolidate its video offerings, Bloomberg reports.
Simply put, it could be a place where you stream all of your favourite movies and TV Shows (from different service providers). And this change would come in the form of an app update sometime in December as part of tvOS.
The service currently offers content from iTunes, Apple TV+ subscription, and even other streaming platforms like Amazon Prime, but as part of this “consolidation,” Apple is expected to remove dedicated apps from the Apple TV box, which allows users to rent or buy video content such as TV Series and movies. This may also see Apple remove the same form from the iTunes Store app on iPhones and iPads.
Mark Gurman claims that with this, Apple hopes to bring more attention to its mainline Apple TV app, and with it being “at the center of Apple’s expanding video strategy,” it makes sense for Apple to offer a streamlined experience.
The new updated app will allow users to, of course, browse through video content in Apple TV+, and it will allow users to subscribe to other services such as Paramount Plus—and myriad other services that you and find and subscribe to. And on that note, Apple, lately has offered numerous critically acclimated hits through its Apple TV+ subscription, with shows like Ted Lasso, Silo and The Morning Show. This could also further help Apple push its initiative ahead.
Moreover, as part of the redesign, the new app could offer a side panel-like interface—reminiscent of something like Netflix for better navigation. Currently, the Apple TV app is present on its Apple TV box and TVs from other manufacturers that feature the same.
