The biggest contract manufacturer of Apple iPhones, Foxconn, has ramped up hiring in China as the tech giant gears up to launch the new iPhone 15 lineup today (September 12). In a bid to avoid disruption in the process of manufacturing iPhones like last year, Foxconn is also offering bonuses to employees, says a report by the South China Morning Post. Apple is facing renewed competition in China from local tech behemoth Huawei which has just launched its Mate 60 series.
According to a job posting by Taipei, Taiwan-headquartered Foxconn, its manufacturing facility in Zhengzhou, capital of central Henan province, is offering signing bonuses of 6,480 yuan (which is $880) per person at its Product Enclosure Business Group. Foxconn’s Product Enclosure Business Group oversees mechanical parts for Apple, the report added. The new staffers are expected to help the facility meet demand for Apple’s new products, including iPhone 15 series which will be unveiled later today.

The iPhone 15 will be launched in China amid fresh competition from Huawei and a ban on iPhone use for government officials in the country.
Meanwhile, Apple, in a strategic move aimed at reducing its dependence on production in China had started the production of its much-anticipated iPhone 15 in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu in the middle of last month, news agency Bloomberg reported. The iPhone maker’s collaboration with Foxconn Technology Group marks a significant step forward in its efforts to balance its manufacturing operations between the two countries.

A recent report by ET also said that ‘Made in India’ iPhone 15 models will debut in the country in the middle of September, thus, reducing the gap with the global launch. Last year’s iPhone 14 models were made available in the country a month after their assembling was started in the Chennai facility 10 days post the global unveiling. This year’s iPhone 15 line may narrow the gap with the global debut, if not a simultaneous release. However, the iPhone 15 Pro Max shipments are likely to get delayed by almost four weeks, as per tipster Revegnus. The tipster noted that the release of the super-premium iPhone 15 Pro Max could be pushed back by up to approximately four weeks in the wake of “severe production issues” related to the manufacturing of image sensors.
