iOS 17.1.1 is focused on major bug fixes.

Apple has rolled out iOS 17.1.1 in a bid to fix major bugs affecting the iPhone 15 series and older models. Here are all the changes and steps to download it.

Apple has released iOS 17.1.1 for all iPhone models that are compatible with iOS 17. This update addresses an issue with the iPhone 15 series’ NFC and wireless communication when charging with BMW wireless chargers, as well as a bug in the weather widget.

This update comes a few weeks after Apple released iOS 17.1, the first significant iOS release since iOS 17 in September this year, and while there are no major features introduced with this iOS version—for the iPhone 15 or older—it does focus on eliminating serious bugs from the system.

Apple notes that, in “rare circumstances,” services like Apple Pay and other NFC features may become unavailable on iPhone 15 models after wireless charging in certain cars, and this update fixes that. This is notably the same issue affecting BMW and Toyota Supra car owners. Earlier last month, reports emerged that NFC chips in some iPhone 15 models were reportedly failing while wirelessly charging in BMW cars. BMW did acknowledge the issue and said that it was working with Apple for the fix, and now it looks like the fix has been finalized.

Another bug that this release fixes is the weather widget on the home screen not showing snow. In versions prior to iOS 17.1.1, Apple notes that the “Weather Lock Screen widget may not correctly display snow,” and this update addresses this bug just ahead of winter in most parts of the world.

iOS 17.1.1: How To Download

Firstly, you need to have a supported iPhone. If you already have iOS 17—that means you can get this one as well. Next, you need to head to Settings > General > Software Update. Here, you need to tap on Download and Install. But before you begin ensure you have a solid connection, and your battery is above 50-60% so that your update process goes smoothly.
