The Election Commission on Monday declared the date for by-elections to 7 assembly seats in 6 states. The elections will be held on November 3 and the results will be out on November 6. By-elections are to be held for assembly seats in Maharashtra, Bihar, Haryana, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and Odisha. The last date for making nominations is October 14. Nominations can be withdrawn till October 17.

The constituencies where the bypolls are to be held include Gola Gorakhnath in Uttar Pradesh, Adampur in Haryana, Mokama and Gopalganj in Bihar, Andheri East in Maharashtra, Munugode in Telangana and Dhamnagar in Odisha.

What are the reasons for vacant seats?
These seats were vacant after the death of BJP MLA Arvind Giri from Gola Gorakhnath seat in Uttar Pradesh, Ramesh Latte, Shiv Sena MLA from Andheri East seat in Maharashtra and Subhash Singh MLA from Gopalganj seat in Bihar. Kuldeep Bishnoi had resigned from Adampur seat of Haryana.

He left the Congress and went to the BJP, after which the seat became vacant. Anant Singh of RJD was an MLA from Mokama seat in Bihar but his membership was canceled on the charge of possessing AK-47.
