Andhra Pradesh: Second-year Engineering Student Dies by Suicide at College Hostel – News18

A second-year engineering student of Luckyreddy Balireddy Engineering College in Andhra’s NTR district allegedly died by suicide in her hostel room, Kishore Babu, inspector of police in Andhra Pradesh told news agency ANI. The deceased, identified as Roshini, was a resident of Muppalla village in Chanderlapadu Mandal. She was studying Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) at the college and allegedly hanged herself in her hostel room.

After the news broke out, the college authorities declared a holiday. Parents and relatives of the deceased student were informed following which they rushed to the college. “The girl had taken her own life within the college hostel premises,” Kishore Babu told the news daily.

Discussions were held between the management, police, and the student’s family as to what led the student to take such a huge step. “The student’s body was transported to Mylavaram Government Hospital for post-mortem,” Kishore Babu added.

Investigation is underway. Further details of the incident are awaited.

Earlier, a Ph.D. student of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur died by suicide in her hostel room. The 29-year-old student, Priyanka Jaiswal, was doing Ph.D. in chemical engineering at the institute. She was found hanging in her hostel room. A native of Jharkhand’s Dumka, she had joined the IIT around 20 days ago. A fellow student informed the college authorities about Priyanka’s body hanging from the ceiling in the hostel room in the morning. This was the third suicide case reported at IIT Kanpur in a month.
