Amritpal Singh, chief of Waris Punjab De.

Waris Punjab de Pramukh Amritpal and his associates, lodged in Dibrugarh Jail in Assam, have ended their hunger strike. The Dibrugarh Jail Administration has accepted their demands. The jail administration has changed the cook who consumes tobacco. Along with this, everyone has been assured that phone facility will be made available to all the prisoners to talk at home.

The jail administration says that though medical facilities are provided to all the prisoners lodged in the jail, but the medical facility which Amritpal, a prisoner under NSA from Punjab and his accomplices want, will be provided to them. After this assurance, all have ended their hunger strike after 24 hours.

Amritpal had said that he cannot spend 25 thousand to meet his family
Amritpal said that his family members could not come to meet him after every 15 days at the Dibrugarh Jail in Assam as he was not financially well off. To come from Punjab to Dibrugarh, the cost of one trip only comes to about 20 to 25 thousand rupees.

His family and friends are not able to spend so much money. Therefore, under the rights of the prisoners, everyone should be given phone facility to talk at home.

Along with this, Amritpal also raised questions regarding the jail cook. Amritpal said that he is an Amritdhari Sikh. The use of tobacco is prohibited in their religion, but their cook in the jail prepares food using tobacco. It is against their decorum and they cannot eat food prepared by such a person. Apart from this, good medical facilities were also demanded from the jail administration.
