New Delhi: Cricketers from all over the world have registered their names for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. However, some of the big names of the game in the T20 format decided to skip this year’s IPL for some or the other reason.
One such player is England’s young all-rounder Sam Curran. The 23-year-old, who was part of the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings squad that won last year’s IPL, decided to not play in IPL 2022. His decision has taken fans by surprise. Curran, on Saturday, took to Twitter to tell why he had not registered his name for the IPL 2022 mega auction.
“It was agreed that sadly I should not enter the IPL auction this year and to focus on my rehabilitation. I’m back in the nets and feeling great so hope to be back soon, Wishing everyone all the best for the tournament. I look forward to starting the season with @surreycricket.”

Due to a back injury, Sam Curran was forced to miss a few matches of IPL 2021 and later also had to miss the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.
The last date to register for the IPL 2022 auction was January 20. A total of 1214 players have registered themselves for the big tournament. Apart from players from famous cricket-playing nations, players from countries like Bhutan, Nepal, Scotland, Oman, Namibia have also registered their names to enter the IPL auction.
Apart from Sam Curran, many other star players have also not registered themselves for IPL 2022 auction. The list includes names of T20 specialists like Jofra Archer, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes and Chris Gayle. The absence of ‘Universe Boss’ Gayle’s name from IPL 2021 auction list has come up as a big shocker for the fans.
Meanwhile, BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Saturday confirmed that IPL 2022 will be organized in India. According to the news agency ANI, BCCI is planning to host the league in stadiums of Mumbai, and Pune if needed.
