The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued instructions that any MBBS admissions made after September 30 will not be considered valid. The commission has advised all states and union territories to disenroll students who were admitted after this date. Candidates can find more information by visiting the Commission’s official website at nmc.org.in. The NMC has made it very clear that they expect everyone involved, including both central and state governments and medical colleges, to strictly adhere to the counselling schedule for the 2023-24 academic year for undergraduate MBBS programs.

The NMC stated clearly that any counselling conducted by the mentioned authorities after the set schedule will not be considered valid. Students admitted through such counselling will be asked to leave immediately. “The National Medical Commission vide Public Notice dated 27.07.2023 has intimated to the stakeholders regarding the cut-off date for conducting the UG MBB Counselling i.e. 30th September 2023,” NMC in an official notification stated.

The commission pointed out that NEET UG counselling schedules in states like Maharashtra, Bihar, and West Bengal do not follow the NMC’s order and the rulings of the Supreme Court, and this is considered non-compliant.

Kinjal Singh, the director general, medical education, Uttar Pradesh told Hindustan Times, “There were 50 candidates who had to be given admission on October 4 as due to a technical issue, we had to cancel the earlier result and revise the same. All our earlier admissions were done much before the deadline.”

In Uttar Pradesh, the first counselling round took place from August 5 to 8, the second round from August 23 to September 4, the mop-up round from September 18 to September 21, and the stray round from October 4 to 6 this year. Admissions made through counselling in October are currently being investigated.

Uttar Pradesh has more than 8,000 MBBS seats and 65 medical colleges. Among them, 35 are government colleges, and 30 are private colleges offering MBBS and BDS courses.

The NMC has just established a deadline of October 20, 2023, by which all medical colleges must submit details about their first-year MBBS admissions for the 2023-24 academic year.

It emphasizes that MBBS admissions for 2023 must follow the rules set by the NMC Act and the selection process defined by the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) as described in the Graduate Medical Education Regulations of 2023.

The NMC, responsible for overseeing medical education and practice in the country, is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards in healthcare education.
