Alexander Zverev vs Cameron Norroie Australian Open Match Delayed As Protestor Throws ‘Free Palestine’ Leaflets- WATCH

The fourth-round Australian Open 2024 men’s singles match between Alexander Zverev and Cameron Norrie witnessed an unexpected delay. Play had to be stopped for a bit after a protestor threw ‘Free Palestine’ leaflets on the court while the match was on. The incident was captured on camera with several video of the same going viral on social media. Play could resume only after the ball kids gathered all pamphlets which were thrown on the court. Security officials had to force the protestor off the court after which the match resumed.

As far as the on-field action is concerned, fans were treated to an absolute superb match of tennis between Germany’s Zverev and United Kingdom’s Cameron Norrie. Eventually though it was Zverev who emerged victorious in the five-set thriller.

Zverev To Face Carlos Alcaraz In Australian Open 2024 Quarterfinal

After winning a match that witnessed the gruelling tennis contest lasting over four hours 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6, the German sixth seed locked horns will meet Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinal fixture. In complete contrast to Zverev’s fourth-round win, it was a fairly straightforward win for Alcaraz who beat the unseeded Serbian tennis star Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic in straight sets, beating him 6-4, 6-4 and 6-0.

“At the end of the day it’s a Grand Slam and everyone is playing at their best here,” said Zverev after the match.

“Cam (Cameron Norrie) has definitely been playing amazing tennis and I’m just happy to get through,” he added.

Zverev will lock horns with Alcaraz in the quarter-final on Wednesday (January 24).
