Bhubaneswar: AIIMS Bhubaneswar will soon start a kidney transplant programme, the institute’s medical superintendent Sachidananda Mohanty said at an event at the hospital on World Kidney Day on Thursday.
“The institute is in the process to get necessary permission from the state government in this regard. After getting the nod, the much-needed renal transplant programme will be commenced in our hospital,” Mohanty said. He said the upcoming facility will help many patients from Odisha and its neighbouring states.
Sandip Kumar Panda, assistant professor at the nephrology department, said: “Odisha is witnessing a steady rise in chronic kidney diseases. There are some areas in our state where the prevalence is nearly 20%.” TNN
