The Crime Branch (DCB) of the Ahmedabad Police on Monday arrested a woman and her friend in Ahmedabad for allegedly killing her husband in a road accident in June through contract killing.
According to police, the victim Shailesh Prajapati (43), a resident of Galaxy Coral Society in Vastral, died at around 6 am on June 24 when a speeding white pickup truck rammed him from behind near the RAF camp at Vastral. When he went out for morning walk.
Two weeks after the accidental death, a DCB team arrested the deceased Prajapati’s wife Sharda Prajapati alias Swati (40) and Vastral resident Swati’s friend Nitin Prajapati (46) for the murder of Shailesh.
According to the police, Sharda and Nitin had given Rs 10 lakh to a person named Yasin alias Kanio, a resident of Gomtipur, for the murder of Shailesh, staging a road accident.
“After putting the victim to death, an FIR Cause of death due to negligence (IPC 304A) was registered at the I Traffic Police Station against an unknown person. However, some videos surfaced on social media in which the pickup truck was moving suspiciously towards the side of the road to hit the victim, following which the DCB was given a probe. Investigation revealed that Sharda and Nitin were in a relationship for the last two-and-a-half years and they considered Shailesh to be a nuisance,” said a senior Ahmedabad DCB official.
“Sharda paid Rs 10 lakh to a man named Yasin and gave him the pictures of her husband. He also told Yasin about Shailesh’s scheduled morning walk and as planned, on the morning of June 24, Yasin allegedly drove a pickup truck over Shailesh and fled. We are on the lookout for Yasin and two more accused may also join him. As of now, a case of murder has been registered against Sharda and Nitin and they have been arrested,” the official said.
