The Kerala Story is releasing on OTT on Feb 16
Adah Sharma opened up about The Kerala Story and the impact of that character on her ahead of its OTT premiere.
Adah Sharma starrer The Kerala Story is finally releasing on the digital platform. It is now all set for its OTT release on 16th February 2024. After Vipul Amrutlal Shah’s ‘The Kerala Story’ enjoyed a phenomenal run on the big screen, the film has been eagerly awaited by the masses. Ahead of its OTT premiere, Adah Sharma opened up about how she approached her character for The Kerala Story.
Speaking with News18 Showsha, Adah Sharma revealed what made her pick such a controversial subject and whether she thinks that she was able to do justice to her character. The actress stated, “I decided to be part of the project because I could be the voice of so many girls.
The audience who gave us so much love for the film decided I did justice . It fills my heart.”
Talking about the methods she used to get into the skin of her character, Adah Sharma shared,
“I obsessively watched videos on YouTube of girls in ISIS camps in Syria . I read extensively on terrorist organisations. Very disturbing videos of women and children in tankers being transported . Watching all this material traumatized me giving me a lot of sleepless nights. It’s made me even more reclusive than I was . I spend even more time alone now.”
The actress is also not scared of being typecast for doing serious films, especially after the announcement of her next project Bastar, “Absolutely now. My next release which is on Zee 5 is Sunflower season 2 where I play a bold bar dancer which is completely opposite of the victim Shalini and in Bastar i play a tough cop fighting a war. I’m very fortunate filmmakers have the intelligence to offer me different characters in varied genres,” she explained.
The Kerala Story grossed 288.04 crores in India and 15.64 crores overseas for a worldwide gross collection of ₹303.97 crores. Produced by Vipul Shah’s Sunshine pictures, co-producer Aashin A Shah and directed by Sudipto Sen, Adah Sharma in lead. While the film is all set to stream on ZEE5, the same trio is yet again ready with one more ruthless and true story to expose the hidden events of Bastar.
The movie claimed that many young women in Kerala were at risk of being brainwashed into joining terrorist organizations. The makers initially depicted it as the story of over 32,000 Kerala women allegedly influenced by Islamic fundamentalists, which many believed was not the case and they received online backlash. Later, in response to the escalating controversy, the number was revised down to just three women.
