Umesh Lal Mahato and Hiramani Soren, residents of Asana village of Shikaripada police station area of the district, are extremely poor. Due to poverty, the couple was living in a hut at one end of the middle school located outside the village. A daughter was born to the couple just 3 months back. On the occasion of Diwali, Umesh Lal Mahto had gone out of the house to do labor to collect some money for the family.
At the same time, his wife Hiramuni Soren, after making her 3-month-old milkmaid, put her 3-month-old milkmaid to sleep in a blanket inside the hut, she herself went to the school handpump to bathe and wash clothes by pouring water on the burning stove in the house. Unfortunately, the fire of the stove on which Hiramuni had gone by pouring water, unfortunately, was not completely extinguished, and due to the wind, the spark emanating from the stove caught fire in the hut. Gradually, the fire also caught the blanket in which the girl was sleeping.

No one saw the hut burning because of the house being outside the village, by the time people saw the fire and the burning hut, the hut, including the three-month-old milkmaid girl, was burnt to ashes. After the tragic incident, mourning spread in the entire village including the family. The family members saddened by the incident were in a bad condition. The family members of the girl were saying that the girl whom we have not even named till now. For whose future many were dreaming, it is very painful to see that girl dying like this in front of her own eyes.
Police gave financial help
On getting information about the arson and the burning of a girl child, the police team of Shikaripada police station reached the spot along with the force and provided financial support to the victim’s family from their level. Extremely poor Umesh Lal Mahto did not get the benefit of any housing scheme from the government. Due to which the family was forced to live by making a hut.
