Vadodara: On the first day of Covid-19 vaccination for children between 12 to 14 years of age, 9,368 persons were vaccinated in the city. In areas of the district outside city limits, 8,930 children were vaccinated.
The vaccination drive was planned after the nod for the use of Corbevax vaccine for children in the age group. In the city that includes Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) areas, 62,957 children in the age group are eligible for vaccination even as the figure stands at 55,833 for the areas outside the VMC limits in Vadodara district.
Sources in the VMC said that the focus of vaccination would be on the mobilisation of children through schools. Schools have been scheduling vaccination drives and intimating parents.
An official said that the portal did not show slots for this age group till Wednesday afternoon. However, this did not hamper vaccination as details of those vaccinated were maintained along with documents. These were later entered into the portal.
In the district, the highest vaccination took place in the Vadodra taluka where 2,520 persons were vaccinated in the age group. The lowest figure was from Desar taluk where only 403 children were vaccinated.
The percentage of vaccination in this age group stands at 14.88 per cent in the city and 16.8 per cent in the areas of the district outside city limits.
