AAP govt removes security at Sidhu’s house: Jawans posted at Kothi in Patiala called back, Z+ security still intact

Ludhiana12 hours ago

The family of former Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu has alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab has withdrawn the security at their house. Sidhu’s Kothi No. 26 in Patiala was stationed at four police personnel who were called back by the Bhagwant Mann-led government. These four jawans were asked to report at the Patiala Police Line on Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, Patiala SSP Varun Sharma has given clarification on the allegations of Sidhu family. According to him, there were four local police personnel stationed at Sidhu’s Kothi, out of which only two have been called back. Two jawans are still stationed outside the Kothi. Although Sidhu’s Z plus security remains intact. He gets this security only when he comes out of jail.

Sidhu is lodged in Patiala jail in 34 years old road rage case. Sidhu went to jail in May-2022 after being sentenced to one year in this case. Before going to jail, Sidhu had Z+ security and 16 jawans were always deployed with him. Some of these jawans are still posted at his Amritsar-Patiala Kothi after Sidhu went to jail.

Apart from this Z plus security, the Patiala Police Administration had separately deployed 4 jawans outside Sidhu’s Kothi. On Wednesday, two of these four soldiers were called to the police line. However, the Sidhu family claims that the four jawans have been taken back.

The government did not forgive the punishment

On January 26, as part of the second phase of the Amrit Mahotsav of Independence, the government waived the sentence of many prisoners. Then there was a discussion that the government has also waived Sidhu’s sentence and he is about to come out of jail. Sidhu camp had also made complete preparations to welcome him. Boards to welcome him were also put up in Patiala, Ludhiana and many other cities, but these preparations by the supporters went awry as Sidhu’s name was not among the prisoners who were pardoned by the AAP government.

Wife expressed anger on tweet
When Sidhu was not released on January 26, his wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu was furious. Targeting the government, he had tweeted that Navjot Sidhu comes in the category of a dreaded animal. For this reason, he was not given the relief of release on the 75th year of independence. In such a situation, everyone is requested to stay away from Sidhu.

Sidhu sentenced in road rage case
Navjot Sidhu was sentenced to 1 year imprisonment by the Supreme Court in a 34-year-old road rage case. In fact, in 1988, Sidhu had an argument with an elderly man over parking in Patiala. Sidhu angrily punched the old man, due to which the old man died. In this case, the Punjab and Haryana High Court sentenced Sidhu to one year imprisonment, but the Supreme Court acquitted Sidhu of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and imposed a fine of one thousand rupees on him.

After this, the victim’s family filed a review petition, on which the Supreme Court sentenced Sidhu to one year imprisonment on May 19, 2022. After that Sidhu surrendered on 20 May 2022 and since then he is lodged in Patiala Jail.

For the past several days, all the leaders of the Punjab Congress have been appealing to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in different ways to pardon Sidhu.
