Aanand L Rai Recalls Fight With Shah Rukh Khan Over Film’s Budget While Shooting ‘Zero’

New Delhi: Shah Rukh Khan starrer Zero seemed like an extremely difficult project, demanding in terms of visual effects and costing a lot of money, when the superstar and filmmaker Aanand L Rai set out to make it. Nevertheless, in producing the movie, SRK made sure to cover every ground. Aanand L Rai still has pleasant memories of his time spent with Shah Rukh Khan, despite the film’s failure at the box office. Rai stated that he and SRK were incredibly giving to each other and did everything out of love as soon as they met in a recent interview with Mashable India.

In response to a question concerning the film’s large budget, Rai declared that he “would fight on this” before sharing with a laugh, “He is a king and I would think so much money… why?” In the BTS footage from the movie Zero, where SRK portrayed a man who was vertically challenged, it was revealed that the filmmakers had to shoot the scene five times in order to meet the visual effects studio’s requirements for accuracy in every shot. Red Chillies Productions produced the movie.

We had to retake every shot five times, so creating that one movie was like making five movies. Shah Rukh informed me, “You don’t stress about anything, I will do it,” when we met for the first three to four days. “Sir, you will get tired,” I would warn, Rai remembered. Rai praised Shah Rukh’s work ethic and said, “A machine might fail, but Shah Rukh doesn’t.” Rai went on, “He can deliver the same shot in the same manner five times.”

The director expressed his uncertainty over whether to persuade Shah Rukh Khan to play a different role after realising the difficult assignment they had undertaken. He said, “After a while, I was like ‘you walk as you want’ but he wanted to go ahead and do it. He takes big risks so what he gets out of it is his own.”
